Are you familiar with your community's approach to solid waste disposal?

Do you have any idea how much trash your town generates?

Would you like to initiate or become part of a team that works within your community to increase recycling while reducing the amount of solid waste that needs to be incinerated?

Then join us in our efforts to increase recycling in Essex County. Learn about different approaches (no visible recyclables, waste reduction program (WRP), or pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) plan) your town can employ to reduce the amount of solid waste that needs to be disposed of. Find out what other towns in Essex County have done to address the solid waste disposal challenge and how they have reduced their solid waste disposal costs in the process. Essex Group needs volunteers!
Feeling like you don’t have a voice in your local community’s environmental issues?....Now is your chance to be part of the Essex County chapter of the Sierra Club. We have been working for over a year to gain presence in the North Shore communities and can use your help in gaining more membership and political activitism. We guarantee you'll have a good time in the bargain.

Current volunteer opportunities exist in the following areas:
-Speaker Series: In an effort to gain awareness and to educate the community on pressing local environmental concerns, we are organizing and securing educated, thoughtful and provocative speakers. We need help in this effort and would love to work with individuals that would like to help us meet this goal.

-Outings and activities: For those looking to get out in nature, we have many opportunities to help us plan or be a part of these outings. SC offers training seminars to become a certified outings leader or just to help us coordinate and plan these activities.

-Other: Volunteers to stand by our tables at upcoming events. Volunteers for our Political committee. The possibilities are endless and we are open to other ideas.
