SPECIAL ELECTION ISSUE

Campaign 2012:
Observations on a Critical Election

If it seems that this year’s campaigns are nastier than ever, you’re right. The Supreme Court decision, Citizens United, opened the floodgates for unlimited corporate donations. It’s not hard to guess which side Big Corporations are supporting (Hint: it’s not on the side of clean air and clean water).

Looking not only in Massachusetts, big corporations are spending millions on character assassination ads. Their primary strategy is to smear their opponents while avoiding any mention of their own views. Using character assassination, with dark foreboding ads, scary music, and grainy black and white photos, are Karl Rove’s trademarks. We’ve been seeing Rove’s handiwork throughout the Bay State, and it’s not pretty.

With just a few days before Election Day, we urge you to make your decision based on a candidate’s voting record and lifetime accomplishments. Don’t be fooled by the ridiculous accusations and the inflammatory rhetoric.

The Sierra Club has endorsed in races throughout the state. Click here for the full list.

For critical races such as Elizabeth Warren and John Tierney, we’ve been mounting an unprecedented effort, hoping to counter the millions that Big Corporations have been spending. If you have any time between now and Election Day – and especially on Election Day, we need your help. Please contact green@sierraclubmass.org

We're in the final days of the campaign and it's never been more important to get involved. All across the country, Sierra Club members like you are hitting the phones and our neighborhoods talking to voters and making sure they get out to vote. If you haven't signed up to volunteer in the homestretch yet -- join us today!

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6th
Be sure to vote! If you'll be out of town, be sure to request an absentee ballot by clicking here. You can also vote over-the-counter right now at your local election office or town clerk (during set hours). Click here for more about over-the-counter voting.

Sierra Club Announces 73 Endorsements
in State and US Races

Each of these endorsees has shown deep commitment to shared environmental goals. Political leadership is as important as ever, and this leadership is necessary to keep our environment, and our families, healthy and safe.  The Sierra Club is confident that these candidates will be champions in the fight to protect the public’s health and well-being. We urge you support these fine candidates.
