Despite 30 years of protection under the Endangered Species Act, the Northern Right Whale continues to decline and now numbers about 300 animals, making it the world’s most endangered large whale.

Hi-Speed Rail could be the solution to our sprawl and transportation woes... but Massachusetts has the only gap in the entire Northeast Rail Corridor. The North–South Rail Link could close that gap, alleviating airport and highway expansion throughout the region.

Should private developers be allowed to despoil our public park lands with unnecessary ski area expansion and clearcutting of biologically diverse forests? The state agency responsible for protecting our parks system seems to think so, and has recently appealed the court ruling preventing approval of the project.

LEGISLATIVE ALERT

The session has ended and our legislative section will be updated shortly...

To find out who your elected officials are and how to contact them, please click here.

• Environmental Bond Bill – PASSED! The Environmental Bond is the most significant piece of legislation this year, authorizing our state environmental agencies to borrow additional money to support critical programs. In these times of intense budget cuts, this bill is essential to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of ALL environmental programs in Massachusetts. Please call you legislator and ask that they support this bill. THANK YOU CALLS ARE NEEDED!

• An Act to Protect Open Space – (S.2281) would establish a “no net loss” policy for public lands and open space in the commonwealth. S.2881 would stop the rampant conversion of public open space to other than its intended use. Under this law, if a taking does occur, the parcel must be replaced with land of equal function and value.

• Personal Watercraft Bill (H.5019) – Often referred to by the trade name “jet-skis”, H5019 would give towns the right to vote to ban the usage of personal water craft (PWC) on their local lakes and ponds. PWC are a significant source of water pollution in Mass.

Just a few calls from constituents like yourself can make all the difference.

Please contact your representatives and urge them to support passage of these bills TODAY.
